Anthony Milledge
Anthony Milledge has been an organist, composer and choirmaster since the age of sixteen. After completing a research degree at Manchester University, he took up music professionally, studying in London with Nicolas Hawtry and Anthony Kinsella. His career includes many appearances as pianist, harpsichordist and organist, both as soloist and in ensemble work.
He was Director of Music at Kingsway Hall, London from 1973 until its closure (1978), and later at St Philip's Church, Kensington. He has taught music for the Open University since its inception. He founded the Holborne Consort, now the Holborne Players, in 1976, and took over the Canonbury Chamber Choir in 1980, composing pieces for them and producing performing editions of many of the works they sing, as well as training and conducting them. He became Conductor of the Whitecross Orchestra in 1998 and has arranged several pieces for them. He has been Conductor of the Barrow Male Voice Choir since 2005 and Conductor of the Ulverston Bach Choir since January 2007.
His 2001 doctoral thesis for Durham University on the sixteenth-century Flemish composer Dyricke Gerarde included the complete edition of Gerarde's music, now being made easily available through Pandion Music.
